The movie sucked ass. I remember thinking it sucked in 2013, but I tried to watch it again a couple months ago and it was terrible. Ironically, the best parts are when they are just following the script and not playing up any of the CGI or the ebin Jay-Z Soundtrack.
Leo was okay, but the guy who played Tom was the only one that excelled in his role.
Also, you can tell the screenwriter got filtered when Daisy meets Gatsby at Nick’s because he has her saying, “he really is in love with me!”, meaning Nick, when she sees all the flowers. Daisy so obviously knows Gatsby is going to be there before she shows up though; Gatsby is the only one who doesn’t realize this.
I know the source material was probably never going to be a great film, but it was bad directorial decisions that made it a bad movie.
Also, if you post pic related in /tv/ everyone loses their shit, lol

Gatsby includes Negroes while at the same time is not a “southern” novel

>As we crossed Blackwell's Island a limousine passed us, driven by a white chauffeur, in which sat three modish Negroes, two bucks and a girl. I laughed aloud as the yolks of their eyeballs rolled toward us in haughty rivalry.
>"Anything can happen now that we've slid over this bridge," I thought; "anything at all. . . ."
>Even Gatsby could happen, without any particular wonder.

More relevant now than ever desu

Maybe people making meme party themes about it tilted your perspective.

>Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning — So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Those last lines are absolutely killer material, it almost makes me cry

>Reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope

Is really good too. Maybe even more impressive because it hasn’t got the weight of the whole novel behind it, it just jumps out at you; literally on the first page.

2013 movie sucked tho

Cliche asf my man. I'd much rather watch a Luhrmann's Gatsby-esque interpretation of Catcher, scored by Yeezy himself, than a conventional, angsty wh*teoid adaptation.
