Sorry I'm not saying this as an excuse but just stating a fact: my arrogant responses are usually directed at hateful replies for which I don't do anything deserving, other than having a seemingly unpopular viewpoint.

OK, I think these aren't that much more grating concentration-wise, David Copperfield is a good length though. Shadows is a short story but there's a good collection of inspired stories (including the original) called "Shadows Over Innsmouth"
