I'm trying to find the answer myself, OP.
I thought I made peace with the idea that my creative outlet would have to take place entirely outside of my day job that funds it, but despite having a successful career that seems to have me moving upwards in business, I am still immensely unsatisfied with my personal productivity and drive. the 60-hr weeks drain me of energy and ideas that come to me while I'm working are lost by the time I can sit down and give my undivided attention to them many hours or days later.
I'm trying to analyze what unhealthy habits and unnecessary diversions I can cut out, and I'm thinking of finding a class or something to take that can teach me how to be more productive with my creative energy that I'm still very bad at harnessing. Having a deadline at the very least might help me.
I'm considering approaching periodicals and trying to see if I can correspond with the occasional story, research, interview, opinion piece, etc. Maybe if I can get a foothold in some way with published media it could help motivate my efforts better and put me in a position to talk to people who actually make their living through writing or research. I personally know an accomplished retired journalist who could recommend me, but I really need to amass content before i'd be comfortable asking for someone to recommend me. As it stands now most of my "work" is thick stacks of looseleaf paper with lists, notes, and random handwriting, organized across a dozen clipboards in my house, and a huge folder on my computer with expletive-laden .doc files most of which contain some form of self-abuse

Im looking for books that have math and/or science in the plots. Like something about a professor or mathematician. It also needs to have a good story.
