I’m a very basic reader, I’ve literally only read the books I had to in high school, my question is, is it safe to start in the “deep end”? Or will they be far too challenging for my pleb mind to comprehend?

Don't let him bully you. /lit/ used to have a wiki with basic book recommendations. I've saved a bunch of charts that anons made over the years.

How do I know when I'm ready for Hard and Ultimate Mode? I seem to be pretty comfortable with Moderate, Lolita was easy and so is Dubliners.

Reading Lolita rn and it's not a hard read at all, does that mean the other Moderate ones aren't hard

the greeks are no meme, they are great, however you may want to start as anon above said with the start kit/entry level, which are lighter and easier to enjoy by people not that experienced.

books in this pic are pretty good, I'd personally recommend the stranger, it is a good intro to actual literature but still easy to read and very enjoyable

I'm in the same boat you're in pall but I just didn't read anything for four years and my attention span became like a fuckin gnat's

I'd say start with Slaughterhouse Five on that bottom section there and work your way up. Don't feel grounded to the guide though, just use it for reference.

Welcome to lit, I advise against scifi and fantasty. If you want to see what /lit/ is really about, read some of the entry level stuff on this chart.
