It's true, they're fucking attention whores and that comes from a retard with a gf. I gave her Orwell's collection and its been a year and the retard hasn't finished anything but Animal Farm. Oh but pics? She has filled her social networks with them, the little bitch.

How in the world did the same man that wrote 1984 also unironically write this seething piece of propagandist trash?

Animal Farm is actually a far superior book to 1984. It has virtually all the same ideas, but expresses them in a more concise, simplistic and articulate manner. All the famous concepts from 1984 are here - doublethink, manipulating memory/the past, being at war with an ambiguous enemy, putting all their resources in a useless project (in 1984 its the war, in animal farm its the windmill)

what purpose does 1984 even serve?

Was Orwell one of those
>b-b-but its never been tried
kind of person?
He seems to praise Marx/Lenin in the form of Old Major in Animal farm. He even presents Trotsky favourably in Snowball and Goldstein in 1984. Its obvious he is critical of Stalinism in both 1984 and Animal Farm.

Was Orwell a Marxist or Trotskyite or did he just sympathise with Marx?
Also general Orwell thread

you are tasked with teaching a 12th grade reading class made up of students with a low reading level but a desire to get better.

What do you make them read throughout the year to keep them interested in literature?

What should I read before reading this book? I know that it's an allegorical and dystopian novella about the URSS but I do not know much about that. I recently bought Trotsky's History of the Russian Revolution but I think that I'm gonna need to know what happened long after the revolution (Stalin)

I just finished reading "Animal Farm" by George Orwell.

I understood the concept of the book, i understand why this book is considered on of the best books of all time by many "top 100 books" lists.

But IMO, it's kinda meh.
