Think about it. It is entirely possible that there is one work that makes a poorer argument than another, or is written in a very archaic style, or uses not relevant examples, or whatever. That is not that hard to imagine.

That also does NOT mean that I am looking for some objective whatever, which I think is what you think I am saying.

I've thought of this before but I'm very conflicted on it.

On the one hand, there is a very big possibility that what I see emerging in American culture that lines up with what I see in 4chan is me just projecting and trying to satisfy my want for community.

On the other hand, it doesn't seem that far fetched to say that there are some aspects of American culture (maybe overall Western culture but I don't want to say that) that are becoming more related to what I see going on in 4chan. Those things being mainly many aspects of the internet and how the "millennial generation" are defined by it: we have quite a lot of information at our disposal, we are used to mixing cultures (hipster), we are used to post-modern apathy, we probably deal with echo chambers in a very different way compared to past generations, and we have this really weird way of dealing with social capital and the want to say that we were there when things got started.

4chan is weird though because of its place in internet history, and how it was at one point (maybe now I dont know) the center of internet culture. The only reason I think this is important is because 4chan might be a symptom of some culture that is now much bigger, so now more people and their culture might become like 4chan. I mean, maybe 4chan is just used to Japanese culture, a very urban culture, and the world is heading towards that?
