What are your thoughts on Odysseus' many very long and elaborate lies in The Odyssey?
For me it's the following:
1. No reason, the plot requires him to lie so he lies. At best his lies characterize him as smarter and quicker on his feet, more cunning etc
2. They're allegorical to other myths or other adventures Odysseus has been on. I can't think of the connections here though

Just finished. Penelope is the closest depiction of a perfect woman I've come across so far. Who are your favourite women in literature?

Why is this considered good literature as opposed to, say, Harry Potter?

So was the last chapter created by Homer or tacked on by someone else? It feels so out of place with the rest of the epic.

Is the Odyssey actually worth reading or is it a meme?

What is it about books written by old white men that make feminists shit and piss their tampons with rage? Is it an inferiority complex?

>people complain about GRRM wasting time describing feasts and what his characters are eating
>but it's fine when Homer does literally the same shit

>They slaughtered big sheep and fat goats,
>then slaughtered pigs, fat hogs, and a cow from the herd.
>They roasted the entrails and served them, then mixed wine
>in the mixing bowls, and the swineherd passed out cups.
>A leader of men, Philoetius, passed out bread to them
>in beautiful baskets, and Melanthios poured wine.
>They threw their hands on the good things laid ready before them.
ALL THE FUCKING TIME HE'S DESCRIBING HOW AND WHAT THEY ARE FUCKING EATING

Newfaggot here. I've noticed /lit/ likes Greek literary pieces. What's a good one to begin with? I'm considering pic related, though I know next to nothing about Greek literature.
