I'm on some weird Z-axis of political thought lately. But my problem with the "cultural right" lately is that a lot of right-wing culture actually seems like trash culture, or basically rubbish. If you were interested in High Culture like the opera -- basically the stuff you can get these days that's trad like Wagner -- it's embedded in the same world as PBS (here in the U.S.). It's actually the liberals who are into this stuff in my experience. There are going to be gay guys in the audience or on stage.

I consume some trash too, but this idea that "conservatism is the new punk rock" is almost like saying to me "I wanna live in the garbage." That's what punk rock is. It's the form of a meme about raising a family for OP, but there's a saying I heard once, which is that "people fight for what they don't have." The people hoisting "family, tradition!" as their battle cry are often people who lack those things, like people who shout words like "glory" or "honor."
