Where do i start with hinduism?

I got the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, and the Autobiography of a Yogi. What order should I read them in?

Is there any theologian that thoroughly compares the doctrine of enlightenment in Buddhism and Hinduism (Nirvana vs Moksha)?
Buddhists will tell you that Moksha is just a lower state of understanding and that Nirvana is higher, and Hindus will tell you that Nirvana is annihilation and Moksha is true awakening. I'd like a more neutral and complete analysis.

I'm reading the Bhagavad Gita and find the ideas very interesting and worth considering further. However, I'm a bit confused about Hindu texts and what else I should read. I guess the full Mahabharata and Ramayana, but looking at Wikipedia there seems to be an overwhelming amount of literature for Hindu/Vedic thought and a bunch of it seems to be just subparts of other works.

What are the, say, 5 most crucial Hindu works?
