Call it christ or consciousness,brahman etc doesnt matter , dualistic religions only separate you further from it and only way to reach god as many mystics universally point out is through self ,no other way. You're right that spiritual pleasure subsides but it leaves something that transforms you , a death and rebirth happens and you're ever closer to that great reality with more and more bliss and benevolence that follows. To universe becomes infinitely smaller.
