Flashman is a rare case of an actual amoral, self-interested protagonist (he does some pretty mean stuff), but note that it's just an adventure novel and it's a stretch to say it 'explores the concept'.

I really think this cover makes the point better. He isn't supposed to be a "wow, he's literally me!" good looking chad with a swarthy love interest, he's a sleazy egoist whose pivotal fuck in the service is the a rape of an Afghan whore who later tries to castrate him. Also, he's like 20 years old (neither cover seems to get that across).

Flashman is better.

i know it has its fans, but flashman should be much more widely read on here
