He's not in vogue for what I suspect may be more cultural reasons than anything else. We're in a weird-ass time, as far as literature is concerned. Maybe he'll go underappreciated for 300 years like the metaphysical poets. Maybe next week Terry Eagleton will be inspired to write a book about him that revives interest in him. Lord knows how these things go, any guess is a guess made to be proven wrong.

Was the Polish girl right? Did Gaddis write The Recognitions as a staunchly pro-Catholic book without knowing it?

I hate this whole modern "less is better" approach to writing and I really wish to write a huge maximalist 900 page novel but I find it extremely hard to write anything longer than 5000 word-long short stories. How do you even go about writing a large novel?

I've only recently started reading seriously and I'd like to get a little deeper into postmodernism. I've read all of DFW, all of Pynchon (bar Gravity's Rainbow and Bleeding Edge), and a few things by DeLillo. Gaddis seems like the next logical step, but I'm concerned with difficulty. I've been told that he's considerably more difficult than the aforementioned authors, so I'm wondering if /lit/ has any suggestions for an adequate entry point. Normally I'd read chronologically but The Recognitions has a reputation that makes me want to forgo reading it until the very end.

From what I can tell, Agape, Agape seems like the best place to start but who knows. Any help, /lit/?
