I think this story gets first billing

Currently reading American Psycho and I just realized how much I love the realistic awkward discussions and autistic internal ramblings the character gets into.
I sometimes recognize that style in some greentext stories like pic related.
Does anyone have good exemples of post-modern novels featuring this type of narration? Preferably ones with a character who's gone off the deep end?

Alright bros, I'm writing a short story about a guy who gets invited to an old (female) friend's house. He spends some time here but then it turns out one of the guests is a fucking monster and tries to kill them or something. Any tips for how I can develop this? I don't want the owner of the house to be the monster because that's too obvious, but I don't know how to make the protagonist find out about this monster otherwise
