Yes. I think about that story every day: easily one of the most compelling concepts I've ever seen. Don't forget to leave a review so we can give you positive feedback

For me it just feels disrespectful of other people's time until I've finished the manuscript (20% left) and have done at least one serious revision pass myself. I know I have a 1k chunk to rewrite, and some changes to make throughout for consistency, and prose across the board will be sharper then so why have people read when I know it needs major changes already? I might put out a call for beta readers on here once I'm in that position though.

So, yeah, I like editing, uhh... What can I say? There's nothing like the rush of hunting grammatical errors down and KILLING 'em! I mean my heart's beatin', my heart's beatin', my hands are shakin', my hands are shakin', BUT I'M STILL EDITIN', AND I'M STILL GETTING PAID MINIMUM WAGE. IT'S LIKE BOOM, SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT! BOOM, WRONG FORM OF ITS! BOOM, THAT'S NOT WHAT A FUCKING SEMICOLON DOES!!!

Rewrite it as a short story, send it to me for cheap editing: we'll get it published in a Lovecraftian magazine. The concept is good and your writing is passable

the best thing you can do is write what you want and search for the publisher that best fits you, even if it is a small publisher. build up your audience online and if the tradpub route fails, self-publish as ebooks. tradpubs will pick you up if they see you making money afterwards. this happens with so many genre fiction writers, for example, alan baxter struggled to get publishers interested in his initial ‘weird fiction’/urban fantasy works until he self-published and developed an audience, and from there harpercollins (I think) picked him up and published his newer works. just do what is right for you and your work.

I mean the new publishing paradigm was amazon self-publishing, and it is still going strong for romance and fantasy writers. but again, your success on there relies on you having an active online presence and ‘giving the people what they want’. there is no set writing/reading community or sanctuary; goodreads is basically abandoned, and Amazon’s efforts to publish print books have more or less failed save for the digital self-publishing side of things.
from my faint memory, the only publisher I know of that heavily curates their list is faber&faber, but they are VERY lit fic and definitely have the money to support that small, niche list being that they are quite an old house. i went into studying writing/publishing believing this was the case for every house, and I am still confused as to why it’s not.
I believe there should be a platform and/or house that combines all the good parts of the industry, even including sites like ao3 and goodreads, that caters to every need of writers, readers and industry professionals. but that would take time, networking, and money, the latter two more so.
