We cannot understand what Polytheism entails because we are so far removed from it historically it makes no sense to our rationality infected minds.

Did Greeks actually believe that the 12 Olympians lived on mount Olympus? Do Hindus actually worship an elephant head god? Why did Herodotus say that the Egyptian religion was basically a way to study and worship the stars/cosmic order? That the Finns believed the world was born out of cosmic music?

What we call paganism or polytheism were stories wrapped in an infinitely more complex world system and philosophy. The closest approximation we have of it is Hinduism and the Advaita , though even that has been mired by too much rationalism. I suggest to heathens to stop larping and christian-fags to stop being so arrogant and at least read writers like Mircea Eliade.
