I think only /a/ has that level of moderation. you even get warnings there for making an off-topic posts in on-topic threads.

It's a pretty boring pandemic desu. Why couldn't we get grotesque black boils or horrific internal (and external) hemorrhaging + gastric armageddon instead of a bit of coughing and pneumonia? A plague so horrific that no one dared venture outside but the sick and dying. Now THAT would be an event to spark the imagination and move the hands to writing. Sorry OP, but corona-chan is just a shit muse.

with every passing year the composition of 4chan becomes less of those "hardcore internet freaks" and more of an already acculturated group to who "internet life" is the norm. that is, the generation who "grew up on the internet" have inherited a culture defined by those monopolies that are swallowing up the internet. this contrasts with the original composition that birthed chans and other forums, to whom "internet life" was not the norm, but an oddity engaged in mostly by outcasts. i think you are right that specific structures or moderation styles, if implemented and enforced, could preserve or create a specific culture. however, if that style is simply the laissez-faire approach of yesteryear (or more particularly, today, as mods used to police board culture, for better or for worse), then the "power of population" will reset the culture to this new "grew up on the internet" generation. but if you want to experiment with that, you would need to start a new website and try to generate the specific culture you want from the start, much as the ancient greek colonies would attempt to shape new cities through perfect constitutions.

I just marathoned YKK. Manga is for kids. Why is Japanese culture so stunted? They have the technical ability to produce, but the output is bland like their food.
Well, I don't get it either. Shit like that is so alien to me both in its writing limitations and how people endlessly praise works like that. It's disenheartening that the majority of people don't realize this, that anime/manga are pretty pictures with zero substance. It's meaningless dopamine releases but without any artistic integrity, thought, or value put into the writing to back themselves off once the effect wears off. The proof is in this very thread, people recommending "/lit/ manga" as the height of the medium. "Trust me, it's different from what the masses usually like, I promise!" And they aren't wrong, the stuff here generally seems to pick the best the medium has to offer, but that in itself is sad. It's like consuming the cream of the crop of educational television for literal children. Good if you yourself still have the mental capacity of a child, bad if you had any ounce of self-respect.
