Can Meursault, the main character of Albert Camus's The Stranger, be compared to Frederic Henry, the main character of Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms? It seems to me they share a lack of humanity. The scene in which Henry shoots the deserting Sergeant, seemingly without any emotion or remorse, strongly reminded me of Meursault shooting the Arab. Disturbing shit.

Lit should I read The old man and sea first or should I

read the other works of Ernest Hemingway first, since I

was told I would enjoy it better.

Hi /lit/, so I enjoy the works of Hemingway, Salinger, and the lyrics written by Isaac Brock. I'm looking for something new to read, would you have any suggestions based on my preferences?

Farewell to Arms was pretty badass. Definitely my favorite. Very evocative writing.

Across the River and Into the Trees was an interesting rumination on getting past your prime.

Snows of Kilimanjaro was vintage tough-guy Hem.

A Moveable Feast was pretty catty- but fun.

In Our Time had some fantastic writing. For anyone not familiar with Hem, I'd start there.

This is terrible, OP.

But the more you write the better you'll get. Don't listen to these assholes.

Best short story ever written. Thoughts?

I have a tie, between Kafka's Before The Law and Vonnegut's 2BR02B.

You know,

for being a /lit/erature community, we really tend to fling shit at writers, namely Hemingway, Palahniuk, Salinger, etc. I'm not saying they are good or don't deserve the criticism, but why do we feel the need to break other people's balls anonymously for liking them?

Looking for serious answers.

Hey /lit/

Hemingway wrote a story using only six words:

"For sale: baby shoes, never worn."

Can /lit/ do better?

Hemingway would beat the shit out of you for whining on the internet because someone in your homeroom class has more friends than you do.
