In following with the very this intteresting conversation i have been reading two Islamic self help books. Sacrifice and Hidden Blessings by Taeem Ahmadi. Sacrifice is amazing to me personally its a collection of Hadith and various stories of the Prophet dealing with his trails and tribulations while at the same time giving you a "dont give up! keep fighting" feeling.

Alot of Sh. Hamza Yusuf's work tend to be on the deep symbolism and metaphysical meaning of the Quran. But for more info on the Quran itself you should check out "Reasons for Revelation" it goes verse by verse explaining the context of when and why it was revealed. this reading list is for more esoteric stuff but i hope you enjoy

Imo the biggest mistake we make is assuming that one should start with the Quran, it's like a Marxist saying one should start at Capital. Everyone knows that starting there will have you lost while reading most of the text. Read some of the books in picrel and some tafsirs. I would say the books on the bektashis and Alevis in picrel are to be avoided for beginners nor familiar with many of the other texts in picrel. Other suggestions would be Ibn Arabi's works, and even though I disagree with him very much Ibn Khaldun was a smart man and his stuff is an interesting read.

If people actually knew of the abundance of theological texts and arguments then they'd see at least the truth of what Islam is, not some overly law focused Christian heresy but a faith on its on terms. You of course, will never try and see it for what it is. If you are actually open to changing your mind I'd suggest reading some of pic related if you can get your hands on them, but I doubt you'd try.
