I'm reading Grapes of Wrath in English and what the fuck, why do all those guys speak like that? Aren't they supposed to be native English speakers? They make such stupid mistakes in their speech, every foreigner studying English learns to avoid them at very first lessons. Do real Americans speak like that in their everyday life?

Hey /lit/, how is Jim Casy morally ambiguous? I was thinking mostly about the fact that he goes from banging chicks while being a preacher to becoming a christ-like martyr. Am I on the right track?

Writing a paper on this book, I'm discussing Steinbeck's purpose in using religious symbolism/allusions/allegory in the novel (which I interpreted that it is to show his own definition/opinion of religion).

Wondering if anyone else has read this and if they could give me examples to use? Already used:
- Joad's + Noah's Ark
- California + Promised Land
- Sin-watcher woman in gov. camp
- Jim Casy as a Christ figure
