How do you get over the fear of writing cringe? I have story ideas, but I have never written a story. When I try to string my ideas together or research how stuff would actually work, I realize how stupid and implausible my ideas were. I recognize I'm not an author. Right now I want to cringe and die when I think back on my writing that actually made it to paper. All I want to do is write a short story or two for myself that I can be proud of. Fuckin help.

>worst example of the professional academic, publishing nonsense logic papers to justify own existence
>similar to the above, no practical applications, research in mathematics is soulless

See, you can do the exact same thing for any job you immense autist. The best job is one which brings some measure of fulfilment, intellectual stimulation, and financial security. If the person is passionate about the field that's a bonus. These criteria can be applied to any of the jobs in the thread.

Correct. You are my mortal enemy, and I the lathe of truth. (Faggot.)

As much of a meme as it is, I'd say Harry Potter/Percy Jackson, not because of any literary merit, but purely for the fact that having a cursory knowledge of those types of literature will be able to win you points in wider normie circles, which can make socialization a bit easier.

Plus, if you read them AND the classics, you can demolish YA through critique and reason and comparison to the greats, which will hopefully chip away at the weird stranglehold it has on most grown adults these days.

It ain't much, but it's honest work.
