It's probably been done a shit ton before but I want to write a story where it's centered around a 'background character' trying to investigate and get involved in the plot surrounding the 'main characters'.
I would like to explore how main characters are separated from side characters in stories and what it is specifically that sets them apart and whether or not a side character could elevate himself to the position of a main character.

When I read Capitalist Realism, I felt like I understood what the "big other" meant: a recognised hegemony . but then when I read more about the Big Other from lacan and others it became so confusing.

What fiction books do you recommend which are light reads, for those who don't want to use their brains too much? I use my brain a lot and would like to get into reading, but the books I read so far are heavy reads and very taxing on the ol' noggin.
