An unbearable read, with some of the worst written characters ever in a novel.

>Get Scarlet Letter.

>Huge separation in the class.
>All the girls think the book is great.
>All the boys think it's shit.
>People who like it, teacher included can't even say why they like it.
>Point out that there's an entire chapter about Hester (Protagonist) staring into a reflection on a suit of armor.
>IT'S SYMBOLISM
>Point out that Pearl (Protagonist's Daughter and Living Plot Device) is literally autistic.
>Try to refute.
>The kid rubs seaweed all over herself, pretends to speak demon noises in The Pastor's ear, screams like a banshee for no apparent reason,cries 80% of the day, beats the living shit out of other kids, and loves a red letter on her mom's chest more than her mom.
>The only thing to say she's not autistic is that she looked into her mother's eyes once when she was a baby and the autistic don't like to make eye contact.
>My teacher tries to explain this to me.
>Claims I just wasn't comprehending the book.
>Pass that class with an A, the only thing we did that entire year was take quizzes over that damn book and literary terms, half of which were just old and abstract words people haven't used since The Colonial Era.
>I'm the one who's not comprehending the book.

This book was fucking trash

this fucking waste of everything possibly connected to it

if I were a tree and ended up as this book I'd be fucking furious

Give me one good reason why this shit shouldn't be expunged from the american school system. Why the fuck are kids still being forced to read this pretentious garbage?
