I didn't mean literally forging something, you silly dickens. I was using it as a word for "created". Let's not argue semantics, though, I find it distasteful.

I do not disagree that what the reader takes away is important, but saying that it completely invalidates the work of the author is just plain bananas. The pic is related to the kind of thing that happens if you do that.

And I'm not sure if art is entirely different from language. There is power in words; ask any propagandist or advertiser, or even an author. Bending words to coerce and coax emotions out of people is art in its purest form.
