I bought Meditations on a whim the other day, I was thinking about reading it after I finished Brave New World, But should I wait until I'm more familiar with the ancient Greeks before I dive into Roman culture?

And how much doesn't that just simply wipe the floor with my and OP's way to feel about books? How much from OP's perception, that bad feelings that come from books were stronger, wasn't just one of the many ways to see it? And how does "animals feel overall more suffering, that's why" sound in relation to all that?

I'm not here to mess with you, but simply to say that this is /lit/ and we will take /lit/'s perspective, and you can't expect to have a /sci/ argument here, even if you are welcome to give a /sci/ point of view, it must be open to the humanities field. We won't be going for the "prove me wrong" type of thing, the binary and absolute thinking I was referring earlier. So don't be surprised about it.

Hello /lit/, question about a sentence I just read:

"At parting we would tell each other how, when we were married, we would lie till the sun stood high over the mountain."

So they are not yet married; is the use of "when we were married" correct?
English is not my mother tongue, but instinctively I would have said "when we [are] OR [will be] married".

What book would help me understand the differences between tenses (something like what we have in France: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bescherelle, but maybe there are others that are better in English)?
