Are the sequels worth reading if I thought this was okay?
Although I'm still not sure if I can tolerate any more of

How do people feel about this book and this series in general?

Just finished first one, pic related, and I'm diggin it.

I don't know how worn out these concepts are since I haven't read much, are they new at all, or just a total rehash?

Book 1: Count of Monte Cristo IN SPACE where everyone is cunty lesbians

Book 2: the adventures of robo-captain on a shitty space station

Book 3: the adventures of robo-captain on a shitty space station: the reckoning

Why were books 2 and 3 such a complete letdown after the first?

So is this good?

So is Ancillary Justice actually a good book? I know a lot of people like it because

But I've seen some people compare Leckie to Heinlein and Asimov.

I know that /lit/ considers this book laughable and unintentionally bad, but does it have that reputation anywhere else?

Every time someone mentions this book outside of /lit/ they seem to really like it

Can we have a casting thread for Ancillary Justice/Sword? With most novels it's pretty easy to picture a certain kind of man or woman, but since the characters in the books don't use gendered terms (everybody is simply referred to as "she") it makes for a challenging and interesting read. And it makes for interesting casting because it can be literally anybody, based more on their personality than their physical appearance or sex.

My vote for Breq is the woman who plays Brienne from Game of Thrones.

Just finished reading Ancillary Justice. Really enjoyed a lot of it, but there were parts that seemed really incoherent and directionless, and Lackie's lack (get it?) of descriptions of any of her characters was a huge detriment, I thought. I was fine with the gender neutral pronouns and not purposely distinguishing male from female, but what I did not like at all was not being told what a character looked like in even the slightest detail until near the end of the book. I had a very definite picture in my head of Breq, and then a single word near the end fucked with my image of her in my head. I did picture her as female, by the way, but pale with white hair and blue eyes. And then bam, it turns out she has dark skin. It would have been nice to know that 250 pages earlier. And while the gender issue was written well, it didn't always work simply because while describing a scene or dialogue, sometimes you just need to know who is talking, and "he/she" does a great job of doing that without getting in the way with the character's name every time. When both characters are referred to as "she" it can really gum up the works.

Anyway, not a huge gripe, and overall I enjoyed it and will get around to reading the sequels when they come out, though I don't know if I'll run to my nearest book store to do so. But they'll be on my list.
