Also everyone should keep in mind that there is an enormous difference between the Desert God YAHWEH in the Old Testament and the God in the New Testament.

In fact if you read the entire Christian Bible, you'll find that God does indeed change his methods and his attitude toward people between the testaments. In a sense, he 'matures,' though really I would say that he is shifting into a different role as part of his grand plan for the universe, as he cannot actually mature.

OP, it is worth studying everything. Obviously you should keep in mind what religion is and what it has become, but study fairly and as objectively as possible. Keep in mind that most of our culture was developed either through religion or by extremely religious men, and that the Bible is the cornerstone of Western literature and culture. Take care not to be dismissive.

It is the cornerstone of Western literature. It contains some of the most beautiful Western poetry, and some of the most subtle and complex plot structures ever written. Its very writing, in three languages over one thousand years by around 60 people, is impressive in and of itself.

That said, some parts of the Bible are incredibly boring and seemingly pointless, and many sections are devoted to pointless dogmatic text.

Read as literature, it is a fantastic work overall. However, I would suggest only reading it in parts, using a secular source as a guide. The messages of Christ, including the Sermon on the Mound, are very important to read. The KJV is my favorite text.

>The Bible is poorly written
>The Bible is poorly plotted
>The Bible is irrelevant or unimportant

If you hold these opinions you do not belong on a literature discussion board. There is no better way to put that. You are ignorant of literature.
