Which of the books on this chart have a plain and balanced syntax ?
I'm trying to learn french and I find that reading is an efficient method to learn in a pleasant way.

I would appreciate some additional suggestions too.

This is from the wiki, but as it's not really a clear where to start, here's my guide:

Nineteenth Century:
Flaubert - Madame Bovary
Stendahl - The Red and the Black
Hugo (Les Miserables, Notre-Dame de Paris) is very popular, but I'm not a fan and Les Mis is so fucking long I wouldn't start with him.
Dumas (Count of Monte Christo, Three Musketeers) is fun, but more really good genre fic than literature.
(Also check out: Emile Zola, Honore Balzac, Guy Maupassant)

Twentieth Century:
Camus - The Outsider, The Plague, The Fall (in that order)
Proust - Yeah, THAT book. But know that more than any other writer on this list he will suffer from the translation.
Celine - Journey to the End of the Night
Sartre - Nausea (not a fan at all personally)

Not included: playwrights, poets and philosophers.
