i disagree. there's even times where he admits he lies or shoots the bull 'since you have to or die' or something along those lines.

I think you must be a phony if you think just because everyons slightly phony you shouldnt look down on it when people do it all the time. thats like saying because i punched someone once I shouldnt feel that murder is wrong or look down on someone for doing it (pre-forgiveness in case you want to go all religious about it).

Holden's hilarious but i don't think he's much of a hypocrite. he admits alot of his flaws & recognises a degree if phoniness - he doesnt think he's perfect.

this shitty novel follows the pervert, wilson, as he oggles 'fine' 'rebellious' 'ass' & pretends his sexually motivated feelings are 'tru love'. The romance is more forced than in a Rand novel (at least that was humorous or kinky).

And so the only reason it is remembered is because Orwell thinks he is an expert on foreign policy & put obvious criticisms of ideologies in his 'deep' books. he predicted govt surveillance cameras, etc. so we'll probably never have a big brother govt so long as people keep bringing up this book, guess thats a virtue.
