the problem here strikes me less in trying to defend YA in itself, or as a valuable form of literature compared to other things, etc.
plenty of arguments, some very persuasive and some not, can be made either way.

the problem seems to be a relationship today between public optics, choice, and judgment. the same fucking moron who posted her YA shelves for public consumption is the same fucking moron who then disawovals judgment in the public realm.
this is really the hinge of it all for me. i obviously disagree with the youtuber in terms of the substance of the argument: he says YA is defendable for adults, i think not. so be it. but he goes one step further. it is not: "YA is valuable" but rather "YA is valuable; and it shall not be judged beyond that"
it's the second step that seems to be the one of the pillared essences of today's social problem.

tl;dr the problem is not that adults consume YA. it's that those same adults post/appear in the public sphere and simultaneously disavowal the possibility of negative judgment from others.

Not necessarily. If we'll do this right we can learn a lot from each other, and that includes those more 'advanced' learning from babby's like you.

It's debatable, but in my opinion yes it's subjective
