God you're pathetic. I've been working at a public library for the past three years and I'm finishing my master's in library and information science. I want to work in this field, but probably more in cultural institutions (museums, specialized libraries, etc.).

Most of what you say is true, but you make it sound so miserable. You're paid above-average salary for a low stress job which, it is true, does entail interacting with strange characters (which, if you weren't a miserable fuck, you would find interesting) and from time to time helping out patrons with their books. Also, where I live there has been some major renovations in the libraries, so it is a nice looking environment.

You're probably the type that likes to read books about the human condition and the plights of people, and feel very humane and empathetic as you do so. But, as soon as you actually meet people in real life who are akin to these characters, your true personality of an insufferable old fuck shines out.

By the way, this is coming from someone who has spent his life in private institutions, has studied and lived abroad in Paris and has met and befriended people from all social castes. Identifying oneself with the higher rungs of society does not mean you have to isolate yourself from the dirty proles.

pic unrelated.
