This is the novel that got me back into reading books. I'm not just recommending it because of that, it's also one of my favourite novels.

So I decided to pick up Crime and Punishment because I really liked The Brothers Karamazov and it was also by Dostoevsky. What am I in for? Is it good? No spoilers, please.

Also, Russian novelist appreciation thread.

Just finished.

Would it have hurt the novel that much to cut out all the shit about Luzhin and Katerina Ivanovna? It would have saved a good 150-200 pages without really taking anything away.

Still, not bad. 7/10

Why is this book such shit in comparison to The Idiot and Brothers Karamazov?

I read this two/three years ago.
I was captivated by the protagonist, his ideas and motives.
However, it vaguely bothers me that his conversation with the detective was the most memorable part. I was somewhat bored by it in it's entirety. Was I missing something? I mean it's very good, but I don't see why it's such a regular on the top 100 lists
