Thinking of finally getting around to reading this. I'm somewhat new to reading literature seriously and I've still got a mild case of zoomer brain, but I know Dickens's style is supposed to be really dense/exhausting for some. What should I expect, /lit/?

Somebody already picked my overall favorite, so I'm picking my "sentimental favorite".

Learning they really don't care much for reading. Trying to infuse their love of film/tv into reading and it's *kind of* working.

What does /lit/ think of this book? I'm about 200 pages in and growing tired of it, I don't think i've enjoyed a novel since I read Moby-Dick last year, maybe i'm just a pleb.

Is Dickens overrated? I have a copy of A Tale of Two Cities but idk, I can't make up my mind if I want to read it or not

Is Dickens worth reading or is he just a high school meme?

I just read A Tale of Two Cities and I felt like Dickens didnt know enough about Paris and the French Revolution to write it.

Is Bleak House better?

I do love some English literature of that age, history books like those of Carlyle, Gibbon's Decline and Fall (although it is XVIII century), or Prescott's History of the Conquest of Peru/Mexico. I also like Walt Whitman.

I am thinking of giving a try to Conrad, although I would prefer long novels, not short ones.
