Do people actually believe this stuff or do they just happen to like the idea of it?

People are starting to lose the the ability to differentiate between the two.

Why go to college at all?

You can learn literature and English writing on your own.

Unless you are going to college for stem, you are wasting time and money and even then with stem jobs going to pajeets you may still be.

Here's what you do. Go get an apprenticeship with some trade, if I were starting over, I'd go to a school bus garage and ask them to apprentice me on diesel mechanics. Or you can do electrician apprenticeship. Whatever. So now you are getting hard earning power skills for FREE, no debt, no wasting time. You start earning early and investing early. That translate into much earlier retirement. You'll be getting a big head start. In the meantime, you are reading, writing, learning literature. It's win-win.

Skip the 4 year degree. You're welcome.

I am pretty sure Marcus gave his wife a cheat pass. He, as a rational person, understood that people, especially women, need attention and warmth.
It was a very common thing to do back then, Marcus must have fucked some boipussy as well.

I'm always skeptical about this. Charles Lindbergh was all but a Nazi and popularized the Nazis in the 30s. The British King, before abdication, was pro-Nazi. Moseley had a decent amount of following and the Daily Mail was explicitly pro-Hitler.

Half the politicians of the period were extreme racists by modern standards; Churchill couldn't care less about black Africans and Boer combatants. The British Empire invented the concentration camp and the Ottoman Turks invented modern genocide. People at large only found out about Nanking, Dachau, etc after the war ended. It was not a struggle of modern antiracism vs uber racism by any means. Half the allies were colonial powers, for fuck's sake. Belgium had been chopping slave hands off in the last 50 years, the Raj was still in effect, the Dutch owned Indonesia.

Claiming retrospectively that it was a showdown between good and evil, where evil is everything we hate now, is such stupid revisionism. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic thing for history the Nazis were BTFO for all time but claiming people in general saw it the way we do now at the time is just stupid.

So if you claim you would have fought in WWII because that was righteous, you're full of shit. We only make that judgment in retrospect, even if it's right.

It's the fetishised consumption of rubbish culture and the reminder that this happens on a small scale every day in middle class settings.

If someone makes a reference to steamed hams and localised aurora borealis twenty years later, and importantly not after seeing the episode and finding it hilarious, it does not refer to the Simpsons any more. It refers to a kind of undifferentiated mass of people any one of whom could have made the reference and from whom it would be equally unfunny.

You don't learn anything about someone when they make a reference to this stuff. You don't learn anything full stop, it is not witty, it does not add to the conversation, it just fills time and often derails things.

Note that early Simpsons was funny and the writers were often witty. Pratchett was doing amusing things to Howard and Vance. The Star Trek series broke several important taboos on TV and broke lots of milestones.

But out of context, reheated and regurgitated, these comments don't refer to anything and they don't refer to erudition or imagination or creativity. At least the guy in Ready Player One studied something, but the people repeating this trash in real life haven't. The implicit fantasy is they have immersed themselves in a canon, a meaningful one at that, whereas they repeat memes ad infinitum.

As soon as someone in conversation notices a trio of things sound rhythmically similar to "beats, bears, Battlestar Galactica" the conversation is dead. If someone came up with that in their actual workplace to mock an actual person like Dwight, once, it might be moderately funny. Seeing it on reddit time and again and hearing it at crap parties is a painful reminder we're all in a secret clubhouse of everyone now.

I need some help. I am writing a letter to my teacher and I cant think of an appropriate word. Can you guys give any words that mean something like unchanged feeling about something.
I would like the word to fit in context so i'll change the sentence around.

I have grown an affinity towards English, yet I begun to detest social studies and _____ band.

All of three of those classes have been the same for years, not much has changed but i want to explain how rather than making me not like or (suggested word) her class i actually like englsih more because of her. Also am i using affinity correctly? i only used it chem a few times
pic unrelated
