Need advice for a gift. What book would you suggest for a guy who loves Augustine?

Augustine's a damn good writer.
>I became evil for no reason. I had no motive for my wickedness except wickedness itself. It was foul, and I loved it. I loved the self-destruction, I loved my fall, not the object for which I had fallen but my fall itself. My depraved soul leaped down from your firmament to ruin. I was seeking not to gain anything by shameful means, but shame for its own sake.

>You called and cried out loud and shattered my deafness. You were radiant and resplendent, you put to flight my blindness. You were fragrant, and I drew in my breath and now pant after you. I tasted you, and I feel but hunger and thirst for you. You touched me, and I am set on fire to attain the peace which is yours.

It's some fucking powerful stuff. I'm not sure if there's anyone here who isn't moved by the latter quote, and doesn't recognize that feeling in the first.

>The idea that certain parts of it were allegory didn't stem until we started figuring out that parts of it weren't true. You are absolutely supposed to take it literally.
St. Augustine said there could be little or no literal meaning taken away from old Testament scripture, and I think he knows a little bit more about it than you do.

I knew with certainty from a very young age that I was intellectual in a way very few people around me are. Neither of my parents are like that all. The only relative who is is my father's brother. By nature I operate on an uncommon level, and that's often given me the feeling of being a god among lesser beings. What are some books that might actually be worth the time of an intellectual such as myself?
