Long time lurker here. Can you give me a reading list for someone who has never ventured past fantasy/murder mystery? Fiction preferred

>"The third way is taken from possibility and necessity and runs thus. We find in nature things that are possible to be and not possible to be, since they are found to be generated and corrupted. But it is impossible for these always to exist, for that which can not-be at some time is not. Therefore, if everything can not-be, then at one time there was nothing in existence. Now if this were true then even now there would be nothing in existence, because that which does not exist begins to exist only through something already existing. Therefore if at one time nothing was in existence, it would have been impossible for anything to have begun to exist; and thus now nothing would be in existence -- which is absurd. Therefore, not all beings are merely possible, but there must exist something the existence of which is necessary. But every necessary thing has its necessity caused by another, or not. Now it is impossible to go on to infinity in necessary things which have their necessity caused by another, as has already been proved in regard to efficient causes. Therefore, we cannot but admit the existence of some being having of itself its own necessity, and not receiving it from another, but rather causing in others their necessity. This all men speak of as God."

Argue against this right now.

>this thread

African-american culture is literally one of the most fascinating things to have ever happened in human history. The idea that some of you were actually born in the US and you didn't read/enjoy any piece of literature about their experience written by a black person is genuinely kind of disturbing.

Despite the fact that /lit/ seems to be predominantly left-wing, you people seem cynical about partisan politics and I rarely see anybody praising an actual politician on political threads.

Do you vote at all? Is there any party in your country that reflects your beliefs well, and if there is, which one is it?

I have lots of thoughts but I can't organize or verbalize any of them. I feel like I have some "ideas" but I don't have any of the tools to put them on paper.

Is there anything I can read or do that helps that.

>Stalingrad: The Battle That Changed History
> Thermopylae: The Battle That Changed the World
> The 5000 Year Leap: A Miracle That Changed the World
> Banana: The Fate of the Fruit That Changed the World
etc, etc, etc.

Wtf is up with those? I'm not trying to make a "lol americans" thread here, but since american publishers seem to love to throw redundant complements in the title, can somebody explain to me why they do that?

Legal reasons? Just to add impact and make people buy it? I seriously don't understand it.

Ignore Theravada Buddhism.

The Zen Experience, by Thomas Hoover is really good, and is free in the Kindle store. Alan Watts also has some good books on it.

Bastard or Western Zen is really interesting as well. Zenarchy and Zen Without Zen Masters are both good introductory texts.

Just remember that you won't reach enlightenment through rigorous study.

After hlf a year I finished the Grail Quest series of Bernard Cornwell and I still don't know how should I feel (I read other books inbetween).
