I've worked long enough at a call center and a restaurant to seriously question that. There is meaningful, fulfilling work out there; I just haven't encountered it yet.

A cushy job set up through a relative doesn't count though, if that's your case (which, for some reason, I'm led to believe through your tone).

At times I find him amusing (like when he wrote against YA lit in that big Time Magazine viewpoint thing on The Hunger Games), but mostly he's kind of annoying. Plus, there's the added jelly of wanting his job and knowing I'd be way better at it.

I'm going the old writing-facts-for-money-whilst-writing-a-novel-on-the-side route, which may be about fifty years outdated. Feels illiterate man, especially when I consort with my fellow journalism majors. I have more Menckenesque aspirations while they just want to be on ESPN. Sucks to suck.

I definitely have to take some lit classes next semester though, anything to get out of these fucking useless journalism classes.

I don't think /lit/ is fundamentally opposed to Eastern philo/religion, but every thread I've seen on the subject usually gets derailed by people accusing others of taking too Western an approach at even attempting to learn something about Eastern thought, or else question the sincerity in such an endeavor.
