Think about it. They were both totally under appreciated trailblazers who will never, ever get the credit they deserve. They both stumbled so others could run. I'm re-watching Freddy Got Fingered for like the 20th time, and this line stuck out to me

This line is a summation of the response to the movie and Tom totally knew it. The only other time I've seen this in art was a similar trailblazer who didn't get credit, William Gaddis, the father of postmodern fiction. In his first novel he wrote in a bit about a book reviewer reviewing a similar lengthy expensive book, and said all he needed was to skim it and the cover jacket, it's obviously trash. Well Gaddis wouldn't write another book for 20 years but his next novel won the National Book Award and he spawned a whole movement. Thomas Pynchon is the Jackass of literature.

Seems to echo Gaddis sentiments on the work standing on it's own and issue with turning the performing artist into a creative one. Agape Agape is basically a 100 page paragraph expanding on this which he touched on his with his more expansive novels, directly stated before he died. Seems he hoisted his own petard in the end with the very book that dogh protest it ;^) no but aside from that cheap meta-hypocrisy jab I adore Gaddis and think you might be interested in the book or whatever he's said. Thomas Pynchon certainly seems to have a similar philosophy though he went whole hog with it and is still telling everyone to fuck off to this day.

You are retarded. Gaddis' point was that reproduction had largely destroyed art. Commercialization, as he put it "turning the creative artist into a performing artist". Gaddis never really expressed anything against technology, and this is an absolutely terrible interpretation of his indictment of the player piano. You should commit sudoku out of shame. Pynchon on the other hand, did write exactly one article for us plebs "Is It Okay To Be a Luddite". His conclusion is difficult to say for sure. He does appear to be at least an optimist despite potential ironies.
