GRIFFITH'S MOCKING OF LINCOLN SHOWS CONTEMPT AND THE EXCISION OF TRANSFORMATIVE HISTORICAL EVENTS EMPHASIZES SIGNIFICANCE FOR HUMANISTIC CHANGE (OR LACK THEREOF). Reminder that what people mean when they say David Wark Griffeth was stagey or "play-like" is that they're not accustomed to good cinematography or having taste. He was a pioneer and master of the tableau style of cinematography He advocated an objective lens. Depth, density, location, acute spatial alignment in the frame with subtle accentuating details were his hallmarks and therein constructed images worthy of being hung on a wall. Hardly something that can be claimed for much anybody else.
