Sphere is a better version of Solaris. I think the first half of it is the best thing Crichton ever wrote. It kind of falls off, but that first half, is the good shit.

Anyone read pic related?
I thought the movie was on to something good but fell a bit short. Is the book much different?

Crichton peaked at Sphere.

>characters are all exaggerated caricatures (basically a psychologist's wet dream)
>superificial treatment of jungian psychology that you can glean from a short wikipedia article

What a disappointing book. You'd think it was written by an regretful undergrad trying to justify his decision to major in psychology.

I was hoping that the villain was a 300 year old telepathic octopus, which would've made sense given all that foreshadowing about cephalopod intelligence in the beginning

Go read Sphere by Michael Chrichton.
Here's a pdf of it if you can't be bothered to go find a copy of it.

Just finished reading this, first Crichton book I've ever read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. By no means a 'great' work of literature, but it was definitely fun to read.
