This. I saw one of these threads a few weeks ago and began to stop subvocalizing when studying for history exams. I still subvocalize for lit./lit theory classes because otherwise I can't actively search for aporias in the text, among other literary devices/motifs that I'm currently studying.

I can't wait for the anons that come into threads and try to refute this even more by saying they still get the music of the prose, they still understand (in a long-lasting sense) the complexities of the text, all without subvocalizing. Definitely the type of /lit/ I wouldn't mind seeing executed.

>the marxists tell me that the smallest human unit is two people...I think that's an idealism. In the end we are alone.

beautiful, really.

imo a lot of it has to do with post-structuralism.

When the intent of the creative presence becomes secondary, or in some cases, non-existent, art is considered great based on the people who experience it. Lauded art today is, imo, a reflection of abstract meaninglessness we feel in ourselves.

Or maybe we're all plebs and there is no great reflective meaning.

That being said, I've always been drawn to the power of a Rothko.
