After re-reading some of these excerpts, I get why he got so popular so quickly. It's not just the Easter Egg bullshit that chokes any semblance of life out of his work, though that's about seventy percent of it.

His style is so, so, so bad, but that's what made him appealing. He writes like all these fucking nu-males do. All the women are either spunky, docile, or gay or manly, and that's it. All the guys are useless except for the main character, who'd be useless in his own right if the story didn't depend on him being such a massive fucking faggot. If he can't think of an actually decent piece of description, either just throw in some generic bullshit

>we spread across the planet like a VIRUS

or just make a reference to something that you know

>her robot looked like a robot but like a female version of this other robot from my favorite show Zanzogarble lel XD

and some other soi-enema-ing social reject will read what you wrote and clap their doughy hands together and giggle and burp and before you know it Stevie Spielberg is knocking on your door with a big fuckin' grin and an even bigger check.

This man is living, breathing, sweating filth and proof that mediocrity, dead-center nothingness so bland it's almost unbelievable, can rule the market if given enough attention and credence.

What makes it all the more disappointing is the book could've been a genuinely great satire of consumer/American culture, the mass regurgitation of media, and the religiosity that's grown to support all of pop culture.

But Ernest couldn't do that. It's not that he probably isn't smart, or could be a decent writer, or doesn't want to be more. I don't think he can be more. He is a satirical character with no self-awareness. A human parody that's hilarious until you see that there's nothing behind the eyes. He is empty and sad.

Fuck this guy. Fuck everyone like him.
