I always heard about how this book was "essential reading." I was bracing myself while I bought it as a fifteen-year-old. The world was a different place after I read it.

Are comparisons to 1984 basically equivalent to Godwin's Law these days? It's almost like the Forer Effect (Why people think horoscopes come true) in that it could be related to ANY governance, war, or surveillance. The ambiguity about Ingsoc's left/right views doesn't help.

Hi /lit/,

I have a reflective essay that I need to need a 300> page book for. And for whatever fucking reason, I'm having the hardest time choosing a book. I need a book that's easy to reflect on (so it only needs one read to really get) and something that can keep me reading it. I'm not really sure what books I like. I just like anything that's good. I was going to do Catch-22 and I bought it but I didn't enjoy the literature style and how non-linear it was. I hear about 1984 but I've heard that it won't get me caught into it soon enough.

Help me out!
