Name a book with romance in it that isn't about a woman fixing all of a sad man's problems

I'm looking for a book that will help me confirm my suspicions about discourse. I've been thinking that there is some innate, compelling force that demands contrarianism, but only contrarianism for egotistical purposes. For instance, the majority opinion is "Ulysses is great," so for vain, self-exempting ends individuals start arguing "Ulysses is shit" until that becomes the popular opinion, and then it repeats "Ulysses is great" "Ulysses is shit" etc. ad infinitum. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I guess I'm looking for philosophical definitions of "edge."

>be me
>Driving to lunch with gf
>"why don't you have a radio in your car? why can't we listen to music?" she asks
>"my radio was hyper-sexualized consumerism and as such a proletariat stole it in a fit of existential hysteria" I answer her calmly.
>Where do you want to eat?
"Oh I don't know, wherever you want is fine" she says nonchalantly looking out the window towards the neon extravagance.
>"Your confusion is the result of massive overstimulation of your unrealized desires. In order to decide on a restaurant you must devote yourself to purging the liberal idea of indulging forbidden dreams and accept the realist truth that you are alone and will always be disappointed

She left halfway through lunch and said "her mom picked her up." I'm beginning to suspect women are just ideology.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Ideology free music I can put on my apology mixtape?
