>he was sufi instead of mainline islam where sufi practices are considered haram.
That's only wahhabis and people influenced by them. Sufism continues to be considered as an important part of traditional Islam to many millions of Sunni muslims worldwide. One of the most influential Islamic thinkers/theologians al-Ghazali was a Sufi and wrote about how it agreed with and complemented the exoteric aspects of Islam and the Sharia. Sufi ideas are taught and are accepted at Al-Azhar university, even in countries full of hardline Islamists like Pakistan the veneration of Sufi saints is very common.

Guenon is, although you may want to read others like William Chittick or Titus Burckheart too since Guenon writes about Islam less then other religions. Gurdjieff was a syncretic guy who seems to have drawn from a lot of stuff and would not be considered as a real Muslim by almost all Muslims. If you want to read actual translated Sufi writings after reading some intro books try reading some of the works of Ibn Arabi, Rumi, Sanai, Attar, al-Ghazali, Shabestari etc
