Your theoretical framework:
>Andre Gingrich, “Frontier Myths of Orientalism: The Muslim World in Public and Popular Cultures of Central Europe,”
>Andre Gingrich, “The Nearby Frontier: Structural Analyses of Myths of Orientalism,”
and add Said for a good mixture

Then your literary text(s):
>"Beyond the Black River" is one of the original short stories about Conan the Cimmerian, written by American author Robert E. Howard and first published in Weird Tales magazine, v. 25, nos. 5-6, May-June 1935.
>Its dutch translation --better if there's more than one.
And if you don't know how to write anything in Translation Studies check

Be sure to include me in your Acknowledgement section.

This way, you get your "trad" sexy, totally-no-homo values and the migrants, colonialism etc.

That's literally Conan the Barbarian, down to the Lovecraftian horror bit.
So you2re looking for Conan clones. Try Conan stories by authors other than REH. and maybe Kane, as it's a conan copy; but it's the story of the wandering jew.

Butters, you sound like you haven't read the stories but got the "plot" from Frazetta paintings...

Conan is also dark/swarthy as well.

If anything, it's the opposite. Conan stories champion barbarism against culture and civilization.

>Barbarianism is the natural state of mankind. Civilization is unnatural. It is the whim of circumstance. And barbarianism must ultimately triumph.

I read the series in translation, I didn't enjoy it. I enjoy old-school kind of fantasy. Elric being a subversion of Conan, do you guys think it is worth a re-read in English this time?

I work at a uni teaching English and it's not worth it.
Find a better paying job.
I occasionally translate novels, but that does not pay well either.
If you have to work full time to survive you'll be buried under much stress (and work) and won't find much peace of mind to work on your stuff. You'll have to cut your usual social ties to focus on your stuff and this will cause, in the long term, you more stress.

The only time I wrote a novel (and got published) was when I was living as a NEET in my parents' house.

Do you guys know any non-fiction books on pulp fiction/magazines, or something like pulp theory? (Does such a thing even exist? 'pulp theory')
It'd be great if they were available online.
Anything related to Robert E. Howard would be extra good.
Thanks.

I'm re-reading all original conan stories in the order they were published and The People of the Black Circle is cool. A Witch Shall be Born is also cool even though Conan is hardly the focal point of the narrative.

I'm planning to switch to Bran Bak Morn stories afterwards. Is Kull any good?

He's only a good writer for people who consider Neon Genesis Evangelion as mind-blowing/deep, and kids who are interested in magic systems/worldbuilding (i.e. D&D rulebooks) instead of fiction.

Okay guys, I've started to write a series of sword and sorcery short stories. I've come to the point in the story where I introduce the hero's name. Though I've not thought of it. He's not a good guy, per se.
Context: bronzeage-ish
he'll decapitate a corpse very soon.

Give me something short, (two-three syllables)
would be supercool if it would give a salute to Conan.
