At least last time the posts were kinda cool and people were seeking advice and then got shat on, I feel as if /lit/ is very phlegmatic and lethargic due to the summer heat or something, I mean even the quality of shitposting has gone to...well, shit lately.

Some essay or article about this was part of my SAT reading assignment, something how there's more people doing poetry than ever, but it's a closed circlejerk that you need an invitation for (basically buddies that like that shit) or else you can't fit in.

>Poetry is dead because schools stopped forcing poems down everyone's throats. It used to be that you had to learn 10-50 poems by heart in schools ("classical education"), but rote-learning has been decried as obsolete by the new wave of teaching starting in the 60s and 70s, so pupils nowadays have to learn only one or two poems, if any.

And thank fuck almighty for that.
Back in 50s/60s/70s you'd still have teachers that would whip their students in like elementary schools (mostly slav countries, but it was in post-WW2 germany as well as I recall) for the stupidest of shit and for any as well as no reason.

Lots of things were wrong back in the day when it comes to education, and education isn't a one-purpose thing either, it's supposed to teach you how to think, and rote-learning is not how you do it.

>mon visage quand my serb woman teacher requires us to learn like 20-30 lines from some 500 year old serb song and everyone gives her shit for that because it doesn't serve a purpose other than to "flex your brain muscles", apparently because kids play too many games nowadays, they forget words and shit.
