Not from /lit/, but I got a book of short stories by a guy here and it was pure shit; extremely shallow and with biblical quotes at the beginning of each story that, sometimes, were misinterpreted. Somehow, this writer is praised and people love the book.

Can anyone offer any critiques or comments to this poem I wrote?

Lincoln, Nebraska, 1991
Am I another destined
To painted pink roses
On smooth white tile
The heart sinks and stops
Against all warnings threatened
Against wrinkled noses
And motherly guile
The mind grows angry
To stare at glittering stars
With a back on cool grass
And a palisade to keep my soul in
The soul keeps searching
The lingering, stifling butts of cigars
And a voice grown jeering and crass
With a mind too cloudy, forgetting where its been
The eyes always wonder
Please, please tell when the wind will greet my back
When the night will come without a midnight train whistling
Without the same black and white birds’ call
My bones shiver
Tell me, against which of your gods have I sinned?
Why do you scold when my soles are cut on ragged thistle?
I must leave the pastel plaster, the dreary drywall
My spirit longs
The wiry carpet is stained
And the kitchen floor clings to my feet
The polished counter is rough
My mind is wild
And your words are ingrained
The silent, dim lit street calls, the yawning door still creaks
As I meet your bluff
The heart beats
