So why exactly do we hate this book again? It's legitimately funny a lot of the time and also provided a somewhat entertaining and minutely accurate insight into 80s yuppie culture and/or superficiality

Just ordered this. What am I in for?

Just finished. Damn, I would like to see the manuscript before it hit the editors office. Because I’m not that familiar with 80s culture besides Wall St. the yuppie stuff didn’t strike me deep enough but is it still relevent on that subject? Or the carelessness has transformed into hypersensitivity and whole ‘inside doesnt matter trope’ has become even more relevent?

Favorite scene? For me, it's the U2 concert.

Brett Easton Ellis said that if none of the murders happened, the message of the book wouldn’t make sense. I agree that the message would be different, but I think it’s just as valid and just as important. It becomes more of a critique of conformity. Patrick tries so hard to individualize himself, but in the end, the idea of not fitting in is too much for him to take so the herd mentality is keeping him from even going crazy right.

I mean, I know it's important to his character and the message of the story, but shit man. Is that kind of scene common, or once I get past the beginning, does it get more readable?

I gotta say, wasn’t expecting it to be so funny all the time. I also read the whole thing mentally in Christian Bale’s voice which makes it that much better. About half way through and loving it.

Is this book supposed to be a comedy? Maybe I'm just too indoctrinated by the memes but I find just about every interaction in this book hilarious.
