How do I learn to enjoy authors other than Melville (1 novel), Mccarthy (1 novel), Wolfe, PKD and Vance?

I read lotr at 15-18 pages an hour.

>tfw can only understand and enjoy lovely flowing subtle/obvious metaphors and rhyming couplets in poetry
Everything else I almost completely miss, even the more difficult and implicit literary techniques used in prose like the stream of consciousness, complex interior monologue etc, don't even come close to the multiplicities of puzzles you are asked to decipher, depthless levels of varied diction, imagery, syntax, metrical intricacies, sounds and context you have to understand in poetry.
Apparently English is even a brutish language and it is shown to be especially hamfisted when it comes to poetry, what? This is supposed to be a straightforward language and I'm struggling with a few entry level classics from the 1700s?
How am I supposed to understand russian poets like bely, mendelstam, pushkin even after I will have been learning russian religiously for 5 years, long, long after my critical period of language learning?

How do brainlets even cope?
