hey /lit/ first time visiting this board, what is your take on audiobooks? Is it a suitable substitute for visual reading?

People who listen to audiobooks are the downfall of modern society.

I plan on using an Audible free trial to get The Disaster Artist, because everyone says that's the version to get. I don't listen to many audiobooks, but I get a second one with my free trial. I think I'd like to get a nonfiction autobiography or memoir, preferably read by the author. Are there any particularly good ones? I like rock music, I've already bought the paperback of Elvis Costello's book, but I might go with his just to hear him read it. I'm thinking Springsteen's Born to Run might be good too.

Any other suggestions? Which should I go with?

i have four audible credits I want to use before cancelling my account -- what are some books that work particularly well as audiobooks for long car trips and such? most of what i've gotten in the past year has been Great Courses, which are good, but I kind of want to get more fiction or non fiction right now, but obviously some works work better as audio than others.

What does /lit/ think of audiobooks, and in particular, Audible? I'm planning on making a dent in my backlog with them.
